Peripherals
Input device- is a peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) which provides data and signals to a processing system for example a computer. an input device is a part of the computer which sends any hardware devices which send information to the computer, this allows users to interact with it, for example a mouse, which has a scroll ball and buttons.
Output device- converts electronically generated information into human language. it comes out of a computer and its a type of communication.receives or displays data output from a computer. for example a printer which receives information from a computer or device, and then prints it.
Cabling - Coaxial- coaxial cabling is the prime function for tvs and computers. this wire is able to show users what appears on the screen. the wires are strong and are normally waterproof. this is for safety reasons and prevents electric shock
Cabling- Optical - a type of cable technology which uses glass to transfer data. this type of cabling is very thin and allows the data to go through it quickly. also these wires are less likely to overhead as they are very thin and durable
Cabling – Twisted Pair- consist of wires which are insulated and wrapped around each other. as the wires are very big, more data is able to pass through at once. and is normally uses for LAN as its a cheaper option. which is beneficial to the user as its a good cable to use.
Input - Keyboard-allows stuff to be typed but also allows codes and functions to be saved, for example playing games etc. this is very common with every computer. without the key board, the computer will not be able to function quick and makes the computer using experience less fun.
Input - Mouse-is a physical object which allows options to be selected. consists of a scroller and two buttons to select what wants to be selected. this enables things on the screen to be selected and used
Input - Scanner-is a add on to a computer but normally works as a photocopy machine, this is because it has all the functions which a photocopy machine has.
Input - Microphone-allows you to speak through the speakers fitted inside and be heard. normally used for music or gaming purposes, is now very common to be fitted into the computer.
Output – Printer comes in 3 different types-
-laser printers are very fast but are the most expensive of the 3.
Ink-jet printers- are the quickest and have options to print in colour and black and white.
-Dot matrix printers- not so common, very loud and slow.
What are peripherals?
information going or coming from the computer.
